This section assumes you have arrived at a diagnosis and want to begin treatment. The biggest issue with treatment is that there is often uncertainty in the diagnosis.
I am surprised at how often people treat the wrong problem, ...misdiagnosis is common.
The most common mistake in my experience is over-diagnosing allergies. Problems arising from allergic rhinitis are certainly very common but all too often those with acute or chronic infections, non allergic inflammatory problems, and anatomy related problems have been treating allergies.
The other most common misconception arises when people get sudden onset of prominent symptoms. People look for: weather change, allergies, bacterial infections, exposure to odors.... Acute viral infections are by far a more common cause of sudden onset of symptoms.
If things aren't working out for you, it is probably time to see a doctor.
