A crooked nasal wall (deviated septum) is very common. In fact, a perfectly straight nasal wall is rare. A crooked septum doesn't always cause trouble. The most common problem it causes is a blocked airway. A crooked septum can also lead to sinus pain and make infections more likely.

The most common complaint from a crooked septum is just not being able to breathe well through your nose. It tends to bother people most at night. It is often not clear whether the problem is fully due to the septum or to something else as well.

For many people whose symptoms come from a crooked septum, the only treatment that really works is surgery.
